How engaged or productive will any employee be if their leaders and peers are play acting? I think whether its OK to be ourselves at work is the biggest business conundrum. Encouraging others to be themselves is a brave move that requires extremely skilled leadership. When I was an automotive director at 28 I noticed how difficult it was for weak executives to be honest because they could not face the reality. In my view its a flawed fearful reaction to say people should not be allowed to be themselves at work. Its been the key we have used to unlock business transformation on day 1, and return businesses back to profit. Many leaders are far too challenged or weak to be able to do this nor are they able to cope with having to face the real issues. I’m sure that being allowed to be ourselves will be the new challenge and will determine our future business success or failure?
